IDENTITY: Who Am I? [Part 3: Setting Values-Based Intentions]

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

Living our lives in a way that aligns with our values, leads to a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Living out of sync with our values leads to frustration and a sense of being stuck.

A tool I often use with clients in our sessions is how to set values based intentions. Below are some of the questions used to set out these intentions. Have a go at answering them for yourself. Make contact if you'd like to unpack them further.

  1. What matters most to me in life? (find at least 7 things) – Refer to Core Values list if needed.

  2. Where do my morals and values come from?

  3. What are my hopes and dreams for the future?

  4. Can I form goals that encompass my dreams and passions?

  5. How will I treat the most important people in my life–be specific?

  6. How do I want other people to experience me?

  7. Where in the world do I want to make an impact?

  8. What passions, hobbies, desires and dreams you have I lost or given up?

  9. What relationships are impacted by my life, and how do I want them to be impacted?

  10. Think deeply about what you value the most and feel coming from within you. Write a short (1-2 sentence) guiding statement.

(Example: “Grow into a dependable, strong and sensitive man who delights in his children, treats his wife like a princess, builds meaningful friendships and engages them all in purposeful activity.”)

Till next time...Godspeed as you navigate this journey of life!
