Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is the degree to which one feels confident, valuable, and worthy of respect. It exists on a continuum from high to low. Where a person’s self-esteem falls on this spectrum can influence one’s overall well-being.

It’s normal for people to feel down about themselves from time to time but, when these feelings start to hang around all the time, it’s usually an indication of low self-esteem.

Having low self-esteem means that you have negative ideas and feelings about your worth and value as a person. There are various signs of low self-esteem, including:

  • Being very critical of yourself

  • Focusing on the negatives and ignoring your accomplishments

  • Comparing yourself to others

  • Not accepting any compliments you receive

  • Negative self-talk.

Let's talk about some of those beliefs and feelings and explore if there's a different 'lens' through which you could view yourself.
